Excellent - thanks Brian. My old 360 worked for years after 720 arrived, and it tends to be non LAA friendly places that get these new frequecncies first. Thus I see little real issue, so long as we can carry on as before - but mandatory radio would be as disasterous as mandatory transponder.

Non radio possible post 2016???
With this discussion about 8.33hz radios being required in all airspace, does this imply we will lose the freedom to opertae non radio? I threw the wireless out of the Turb years ago, and have discovered a whole new world of freedom. I accept they have a place (I fly for a crust) but if this is the ...

Hi Ken, e-mail this guy; Pérez Pérez Carlos <cpperez@fomento.es>. He's the bloke who issues clearances and works in the Agencia Estatal de Seguridad Aerea. I got a reply/permission last time I went there within 48 hours. Give him the dates you intend to be there (add a bit of flex as they don't seem...

Nigel - fair cop;I just feel that other bits of the LAA has this in mind -Devon regional for instance. Bill - I understand your battery being an example; I'm just saying that even without any pandering to H&s the risk is already acceptably low. Welshman - yup I too have had enough of this one. Charl...

Bill - many LAA a/c don't have a battery, and thus could in theory start when little johnnie pulls on the prop if the p lead had come adrift. But you have to set this risk in context. I have been involved in hundreds of fly-ins over the years, and I cannot ever recollect an injury, or even a close s...

Hi Guy's, I'm afarid I'm with John on this one, and I know that I'm far from alone. Slots hugely restrict flexiability, and if mandated (as they are by some outfits - although not apparently Sywell (so why bother)) can be counter productive flight safety wise. The G-VFWE was sadly ruined by slots. M...

Hi Brian, I see why you made your comment above, sorry I wasn't clear - but I am ceratinly not advocating going back to the whizz wheel days of planning based on a wind that probably wasn't correct anyway. What I said was; "it's competent planning followed by similar flying/nav." Nowadays this must ...

Gents, I feel that some of this problem could be alleviated if the focus of the BFR moved away from circuits in every conceivable configuration. The old PFA tick sheet for BFR's tended to focus us toward that - when in fact there should not really be any laid down syllabus. Certainly when conducting...

Rod, I'm not decrying all the hard work done by JB and others, and I fully recognise the relaxation in requirements that have been sucessfully won. People have done a grand job. But as you say you do need one if you are to tour internationally. Mobile phone size mode S would be developed if the mark...

Rod1, You're missing the point somewhat, yes its small, but it's still £1.295! Thats a huge chunk of my annual flying budget, and a third of the value of a VP, Luton or similar. When all this started the CAA promised kit for under £500, and something that could transfer between a/c like an Icom. No ...
