Re: 12v Fuel Pumps
Are you using the sealed metal fuel filter that screws in to the pump inlet? If so have you cut one open to see if it is clogged? Those filters are non serviceable, and should not be used. I filter that can be opened and inspected for debris should be used. If you are collecting debris that is block...

Liability insurance for Engineers
As an LAA inspector I am protected behind the insurance that I purchase as part of my LAA inspector rating. However, if I do any "work" on an aircraft I am on my own liability. If I owned/operated a company I would have liability insurance as part of my Hangar or business insurance, however, as a so...

Re: VW engine conversions in the UK
Hi Ivan, Great Plains used to be the best supplier when Steve Bennet was alive, the new owner was very unreliable when I tried to order a kit from them about 2 years ago. What a/c are you planning on using it in? The best variant is the 2180cc with the Force 1 hub conversion, it is much stronger and...

Re: Dual battery setup for Leberg ignition
For the Leburg a 7ah & 4 ah are fine if they are being charged in flight.
If you are not going to charge the batteries in flight be aware that you will damage the Leburg controller if the voltage drops too low.

Re: Acro VW 1834 Fuel Flow- FRED
Most of these engines burn 15-20LpH. Assume double that & you have plenty of reserves.
The LAA provide a fuel flow check sheet via the technical link.

Re: VW spark plugs
The original light weight heads have a thinner casting so by the time you have machined deep enough to get to a flat seat for the plug gasket you are looking at a short or medium reach plug. You don’t want bare threads exposed in the head otherwise carbon will build up on the thread and cause proble...

Hi, I am looking for a replacement aerobatic carb' for the Ellison TBI to use on VW aero converted engines. The Revmaster Revflow is available also......this unit needs a fuel pressure regulator. Rotec make their version of the Ellison, but I have had only bad experiences with them so will not fit o...

Re: CD150 Stromberg carb' needle part# or profile
Hi Greg, Thanks for the photos, it looks like a very nice job you are doing. A couple of thoughts: How fuel resistant are the rubber pipes you are using? If you are using unleaded (and you should for engine longevity provided you have the correct CR.) I would suggest putting a small measured piece o...

Re: CD150 Stromberg carb' needle part# or profile
Hi Greg, The VW engine is a bit quirky about inlet manifold and exhaust design. Do you have 4 open stacks, or do you have some other ex' system. The engine fires both cylinders on the same side consecutively, and both ex' and inlet manifolds can suffer due to the pressure pulses. A picture of your s...

Thank you Gents, the chap at Burlen is away till tomorrow, so will call him then. The engine runs well at all throttle openings with no hesitation on application of sudden full throttle from idle, and is reaching about 3000 rpm at full throttle, so the current needle is ok on the ground, but I have ...
