Non radio possible post 2016???

Post by CH » Sat Mar 26, 2011 11:51 am

With this discussion about 8.33hz radios being required in all airspace, does this imply we will lose the freedom to opertae non radio? I threw the wireless out of the Turb years ago, and have discovered a whole new world of freedom. I accept they have a place (I fly for a crust) but if this is the intent I feel we must challenge it.

Hi Charlie,

there is a thread I started here: http://www.lightaircraftassociation.co. ... php?t=2753

You might want to add to it or not!

Cheers,

Charlie, I have heard or seen nothing to suggest that radio could become mandatory. This change to 8.33 is purely to make more frequencies available.

Excellent - thanks Brian. My old 360 worked for years after 720 arrived, and it tends to be non LAA friendly places that get these new frequecncies first. Thus I see little real issue, so long as we can carry on as before - but mandatory radio would be as disasterous as mandatory transponder.
