Sorry, your intentions weren't wilfully broken, but as I explained today this 'locking' stopped all comment there.
For me at least it took some days to realise it was lost & digging to rediscover the original thread.
I used my freedom as a member of this forum to make what I thought was an apposite cross reference for similarly keen folk which I couldn't readily divine from the locked entry !

OK, time is marching on. Thanks to the 25 of you that have indicated an interest in a virtual strut. The next NC is on 8th March and I'll be there as locum for the Bristol NC rep. While I think most at the NC will fall asleep when I mention a virtual strut I'm willing to give it a go if it may mean NC recommend it to EC. I will ask Harry for a small slot to discuss.
Apart from a request for formation of the strut itself are there any other proposals prospective members would like me to make? I will need to get something on paper to Harry prior to the meeting.

Here are a few words as first draft of a proposal. Anyone is free to tweak it or add any other points as subsequent drafts:

Proposal to set up a virtual strut (draft 1)
-------------------------------------
The proposal is that a Virtual LAA Strut be formed around a web based
bulletin board. It would make sense to use the LAA BB if the EC agree.
LAA struts offer the opportunity for members to get together with like
minded individuals in their area. They encourage participation in LAA
events and the organisation of events by the strut itself. LAA provide
top up insurance for strut events. New friendships and shared experience
are just two of the benefits. Many of us that attend them get a feeling
of belonging and a list of fellow pilots we can fly with or call upon
for advice or in troubled times. The strut system provides a interface
to LAA HQ and EC via the National council. Strut members can make formal
representations via NC and their rep at the meeting. LAA HQ disseminate
information to struts via the coordinator on a regular basis.
None of the strut benefits are available unless one exists. What of
members that live in more remote areas where the 10 people required to
form a local strut simply don't exist? What about persons that while
they do live within travelling distance to a strut have commitments
meaning they cannot attend? Many work nights or shifts, some are carers
in the evening, some travel extensively in their profession. None of
these members can benefit from the strut system though no fault of their
own.
A virtual strut is one way get these people more involved in LAA activities. It may help with member retention. From an initial poll on the LAA BB, 25 members were interested in becoming involved which is more than the minimum needed to set up geographic strut. This may grow once a virtual strut is established.
The proposal is therefore to set it up and see if it works. If it does then we
gain an additional facility for members. If it should peter out then at least we tried.

I agree with Steve's post and support the idea of a virtual strut. Just to play the devil's avocado, what exactly would the benefits be in having a virtual strut, over and above those that already exist to the regular users of the BB? This may well prove to be an argument put forward against by the NC....

Hi Phil,
Paragraph 2 above explains the advantages I can see from a
strut. You must judge for yourself how many of those have been available
to date without one. NC representation and fly-in top up insurance are the tangibles I guess.
BTW I think many of NC (those that stay awake during my pitch anyway
will be as supportive as some of the EC that have posted here.

How long will it be before the Web Strut is formally permitted ??
Meanwhile isn't it about time 'our leader' got the putative membership up to speed and necessary positions and list of particiapnts established in advance. There's so much going on where our input is desirable.
As I read it by procrastination we'll miss otherwise the boat on Mode S consultation after the May date passes !!
After all it's taken months & months to get to the stage where we 'hope' for a 'YES' vote.
