The nice people at the CAA have produced a new simplified procedure for releasing controlled airspace that is no longer needed and the BGA are off the blocks on this with a chunk of the London TMA south of Gatwick being close to release and work now in hand to lift airspace at Carlisle.
There is lots we could do but I can't do it alone and I am presently limited by important work on transfer of pilot licences to EASA and the CAA's "Future Airspace Strategy". A complicating factor is that as of September the CAA airspace people are going to work on Olympic planning for a year and any airspace stuff like this will be parked. So if we are going to get some airspace back we have to get started now.
Could you help?
The obvious starter for us might be the southern edge of the Manchester CTR as with the demise of Nimrod, any pretence of a CAS requirement for Woodford must now be gone. One might draw a line from Holmes Chapel to VRP Glossop and suggest anything south of that is no longer required. Similarly, the south east corner of the Liverpool CTR cannot be used down to ground level and the LL route could perhaps be widened by taking back a chunk from Chester to VRP M56 J11.
And of course the Glasgow CTR bears no relation to the airspace required for a single runway airport now the cross runway is a taxiway.
You would need to know just a little about airspace and be able to read official documents and put a logical case on paper. If you could help please drop me a line at [email protected]
Without people to help, this opportunity to claim back airspace will be wasted. Go on....
John
Would you like some more airspace Sir?

With 90'odd views of my post I feel sure that someone will step up to help with this. So sure in fact I just sent the email below to the Head of Controlled Airspace at the CAA to start the ball rolling in anticipation. So who is it going to be then? You could help you know......

Dear Stuart,
With the raised TA at Manchester and the reduction in traffic at Woodford, the LAA is considering sponsoring a RCSA based on the previous ACP (attached). With the approach of the Olympics we need proceed quickly so can you please help us with appropriate contact details at NATS and in DAP.
Associated with this we have an interest in widening the southern end of the Manchester LL route to the West to enable aircraft using the route to avoid overflying the conurbations at Winsford and Northwich and to reduce the risk of conflict between opposite aircraft. This would involve release of the Southern corner of the Liverpool CTR which has often struck us as anomalous being such a long track distance from the runway. To keep matters simple we would see this running as a separate but associated RCSA. Again, contact details would be a helpful start.
I have copied this to the chair of the NATS GA Partnership.
Sincerely
