I suppose it's unlikely to come much under the £70 mark if made commercially. If anyone has a CNC mill then we could get down to material cost?
I always figured this would be a one-off cost that would have to be swallowed to achieve the complete installation as DM intended.

I still think it's time to revisit the design however as technology has moved on and there are quite a few electronic ignitions with built-in advance/retard profiles. It's only because I'm already in possession of a cardboard box that owes me around £600 with the Honda alternator and coils that I'm continuing down the Leburg road!

Just out of curiosity (in case I find myself in possession of a VW powered aircraft one day), is it possible to fit the DCDI unit from the AeroVee engine from Sonex to other VW's as an aftermarket item?

Assuming you could buy it as a spare part (not sure you can?)

Probably no reason why not, it's a VW at the end of the day?

With reference to the ongoing "delicate negotiations" regarding the Leburg system, I recently emailed the contact I have who is involved in pursuing the possibility of taking over production and have heard nothing back as yet.

I shall of course let you all know when I hear anything positive.

In the meantime have a good Christmas break and let's hope the weather stays fine enough to get some decent flying time in.

I'd be surprised if you could. Aerovee are very cagey about selling bits to people doing their own conversions. They want you to spend several grand with them for a whole engine!

I think the Aerovee carb / injector / throttle thingy is available separately, but not much else!

Theirs is a nice conversion, but the price rather out of keeping with the main attraction of a flying VW i.e. it's cheap!

Great Plains are the place to look for aero VW conversion stuff, in my experience.
