I just wanted to add an update:

My frustrations led me to contact Jim Irwin the President of AS & S who has looked into my complaint and has offered to replace all of the defective material free of charge.

I have only just been advised of his offer, but I think that is a more satisfactory outcome (assuming that I have no problems with the replacements of course).

I think it is clear that purchasers need to very carefully detail their requirements when ordering spruce, but I do believe from Jim's emails that he is keen to provide a high level of quality and service and will respond if people take the trouble to complain to him.

regards,

Colin
