World Records Officer Needed

Post by John Brady » Wed Aug 01, 2012 6:21 pm

Dear all,

please can I ask for some help for the LAA concerning record attempts.

You may know that the FAI ratifies aviation related world records and delegates the supervision to national aero clubs, in our case the RAeC. Their charges for record attempts are quite high - between £225 and £450 for the attempt plus £60 for the FAI and £35 for each competitor. The RAeC are able to delegate further to individual sporting organisations such as the LAA and it is our aim to now take this on to encourage British aviators to set World records at a much lower cost. For example you can set a record between any 2 points more than 400km apart but the cost might put you off.

But we need a volunteer Records Officer to take on the management of our delegated authority. This individual would become an expert on the rules and management of record attempts, promote the facility, advise prospective competitors and oversee the record process. Meanwhile the LAA office would deal with the routine paperwork. The work would be mainly by phone and internet but the LAA would cover any necessary expenses.

Please would you consider putting your name forward for to help with this? Or perhaps you know someone who might be interested - if so please try to pursuade them. We would like to kick off the LAA delegated authority with a World Record terminating at Sywell during the LAA Rally so we can generate interest in records - so we want to get on with this quite soon.

If you can help please get in touch with me or reply on this thread.

Thanks,

John Brady
