I am thinking of stabilizing or reinforcing a grass strip with a plastic mesh called TURFPROTECTA does anyone have any experience of using this or a similar product?

Re: stabilizing or reinforcing a grass strip
Paul,
We used Perfo matting on hard worn areas of our strip to excellent effect.
We confined our reinforcement activity to a metre wide around the hangar concrete apron and under the farm track that crosses our runway where we regularly have to take 25 tonne gross wt vehicles over to the fields beyond. We obviously do our best to avoid wet ground conditions when doing so and after 4 years it is still reasonably smooth there - but 2012 summer did take it's toll and, whilst the track edge if perfectly OK to land across, it will be topping off with a little bit of topdressing over the summer to keep it nice and level so I don't spill my tea when mowing the grass.
In my opinion any of the grass reinforcement materials can alleviate the effects of excessive wear where concentrated or heavy traffic is unavoidable but none of them are a substitute for good grassland management practice and proper drainage.
Please feel free to get in touch if you would like any more info re our experience to date.
Adrian
