Flying Young Carers
YES have organised an aviation experience day at Sywell on the 25th May, which includes flying the youngsters. We find that the majority of our volunteer pilots now cannot fly them because they are over 65 and therefore do not comply with the LAA insurance cover.
The other basic requirements are LAA member, 200 hrs PIC (3 in the last 90 days),20 hours on type and 3 landings in the last 30 days. Single passenger cover £1.75m CSL.
Is anyone able to come over and fly some youngsters? Short notice but a very worthy cause and great satisfaction to do.
Carers are youngsters who have to care for their infirm parents and therefore don't get the opportunities that most kids do.

You might find you get a better (any!
) response if you post this on the Flyer forum, where there are some very active LAA folk who, I think, might be able to help. I can do this if you wish should you not already lurk there.
I would love to be able to help & would indeed, but am working then, alas.
Good luck.

Re: Flying Young Carers
As ChampChump suggests, the Flyer Forum has a number of LAA folks as regular readers / contributors.
I'm just checking my insurance and will help out if possible.

Richard W.

Hi Roy,
Insurance now sorted, good to go. I hope that doesn't kill the weather...

Re: Flying Young Carers
I will be at Sywell that day weather permitting, as its the US Classics fly-in as well.
I would be happy to fly a couple of carers in Piper Cub G-BVAF if you find me. I assume the insurance requirement is the minimum legal requirement for that aircraft, which I have. If its any more than the legal requirement, then sorry my insurance doesnt cover me.

Relayed from the Flyer Forum, as MikeB is having problems with this one.
Weather looking good, if misty early on. With the forecast headwind I'd better set off this afternoon, given my leisurely rate of progress from East Sussex...
Look forward to meet up with everyone tomorrow.
Safe Flying,
Richard W.

Weather forecast is looking favourable so I confirm my attendance in GYVES.
Tried to post confirmation on the LAA forum but every time I hit the "post reply" button I get taken to some weird order history page

The Insurance Position
As those who frequent the Flyer Forum will know, we had Insurance problems at Sywell.
I’ve contacted my insurers to see if there is a way of dealing with the rather sweeping requirements of Indemnity Agreement (Annex 2 to the Third Party Passenger Flying at LLA Member Club Flying Events).
http://www.lightaircraftassociation.co. ... s/TPPF.pdf
I’m hoping to get something that is acceptable to the LAA as well as the insurers, preferably as a no-cost option. If this does happen I’ll let everyone know.

Insurance problem resolved
For those following this saga, I've just had confirmation back from the LAA that their insurers are happy with the following form of words to cover the contentious part of the previously mentioned document:
Endorsement Wording
It is hereby noted and agreed that the Light Aircraft Association Ltd and its Member Clubs and/or their respective Officers, Directors, Employees (full/part time/freelance/volunteers) are noted as an Additional Insured on the liability section of the policy with a waiver of rights of subrogation on the hull solely whilst a pilot permitted stated under Part 3 of the Schedule is undertaking Third Party Passenger Flying in the name of the LAA whilst acting for the LAA’s interests as promoters only of recreational flying when promotional flights are undertaken voluntarily and without charge (non-commercial) by a member of the LAA Member Clubs in their own aircraft.
Perhaps I could suggest that anyone interested in this sort of flying gets the Endorsement in to their insurance schedule before the next charity flying session.
