Mode S Consultation - The Deadline Approacheth
31 May is the deadline for this important consultation.
The CAA have had about 300 responses mostly from glider pilots. We need thousands to make a difference.
If you have not dealt with this yet, please don't leave it until later, please do it very soon.

You are so right Mach 2.
If you do not send your opinions to the CAA then they will do exactly what they want. I know its a pain to complete but if we do not swamp them with negatives about mode S, expect it to be MANDATORY 1st April 2012.
All the data you need is on this website!!!
So come on Chaps and Girls.

I think Mode S is a done deal. There is no way we can avoid it at some stage. However, the devil will be in the detail and the CAA "consultation document" is a pretty shabby affair as far as consultation goes. It is obvious from the LAA web site that the LAA have done a superb job in analysing and detailing its weaknesses. Responding to the consultation is the only way we can have any effect on the final outcome.
Like most off you I was sitting on the fence and waiting for others to do something but a recent email prod got me out of the armchair and in front of the PC to respond. It was a relatively painless task in the end. The real painful bit was when I clicked the button on the LAA web site to register the fact that I had submitted a response. Why was this painful ? Because it it informed me that there had been 1 response in support of the consultation, 11 against and 5 neither way. Just 17 responses from, what is it, 8000 members and that included my own!
Give it a go, respond now or keep quiet when the CAA declare that they know best and do what they choose.

Well then If we all get lamped for a £6,000 bill to fit Mode S then we only have ourselfs to blame. The way I see it going, is that gliders will continue to be exempt because of the stink they created. Forget all that rubbish the CAA came up with about quality. Its very simple if they get 8,000 responses telling them to shelve the whole thing they are going to have to do some major humble pie eating. If they only get 38 responses they will deduce that GA is happy to comply, and enforce the whole thing at once.
If you think the whole thing is to complicated to complete just adopt the response tabled by the LAA. Its better than nothing and, well if they get 8,000 people telling them that, something may happen.
If anyone wants to read the 14 pages I submitted PM me and I'll email you a copy.

I dug around the CAA site to try and find one on Consultation as neither the LAA not BMAA web site pages gave me enough clues - except to read their own submissions !
Now got stuck in and wrote off too. Didn't see any posting of how many replies ? Where was that data found ?
Got this back from the CAA :-
"You have submitted the following Response to the DAP Proposal for an Incremental Expansion of the Use of SSR Mode S Transponders in UK Airspace response to the UK Civil Aviation Authority................"
Was this the correct site ??

The LAA consultation page http://www.lightaircraftassociation.co. ... ModeS.html
second para says "The consultation documents are here with links.....
Seems a pretty clear clue to me!
