LAA x BMAA

Post by mikehallam » Mon Jun 17, 2019 2:13 pm

Great news today that co-operation is under way between the U.K.'s two important but rather similar & increasingly overlapping light a/c organisations.
Together our clout is stronger.
Clearing away old junk and rationalisation may help us all by undoing a few unnecessary 'kinks' from both sides whilst assuring safe engineering principles are retained.

Thanks Mike

You beat me to it. For those that haven't seen the press statement, it's here:

Discussions on closer cooperation between the British Microlight Aircraft Association (BMAA) and the Light Aircraft Association (LAA).

The Chairmen of the LAA and BMAA have initiated informal discussions to explore where both associations, working together, could harness their respective areas of expertise for the benefit of their members.

The discussions are likely to be wide ranging and will note areas where views are shared, but will also include how the associations’ technical teams could work together to maximise the benefit of the impending opt out from EASA regulation of 600kg factory built aircraft.

The Chairmen, Rob Hughes and Tim Hardy, have approached this joint initiative with enthusiasm about the possibilities of their associations working closer together and look forward to communicating further developments to the members, staff and the wider aviation stakeholders in due course.

That's welcome news and can only be beneficial to members of both groups. :)

Why not involve the BGA as well. Thec 3 organistions combined could have huge expertise, and we worked well together to set up the NPPL with the CAA

I actually don't know the answer to what Terry suggests , but I do feel that the BGA don't have quite the same need for being as unilaterally aligned as the LAA and the BMAA really should be .

The BGA have got on and 'self policed' for many a long year and may not be in such a need to have their duplicated , but slightly dissimilar policies brought into line like ourselves and the BMAA have .

Both parties appear to want to get round the table . If that is the case , then let's get it on .
