With such a "closed and very small pool" Rod, I am surprised that you have bothered to post this on the LAA site. But, for those who might actually be interested in the topic rather than the petty politicking, this is an initiative being set up by an aviation friendly officer in the Sussex Police as a response to the so-called threats posed by light aviation outlined by Lord Carlisle recently. The Shoreham meeting on 14th September has now been confirmed and LAA will be represented.

I posted because I thought it was important that people knew it was happening. This BBS has about 400 registered members, as the issue has no specific LAA slant I thought it would be better to include our comments in the national debate, rather than hide our words of wisdom. I did not mean it as an insult, but you have to admit we are a very small group and with the much larger numbers over on flyer…

Yesterday, the Sussex Police and the technical team supporting them on this initiative came to Turweston. We discussed the processes, pros and cons. The chaps are well meaning and actively doing something to help GA. That's a good thing.
The scheme is really two seperate threads albeit with a strong link.
The first is the 'homeland security' issue, the second protection of property (our aircraft).
Lord Carlile's recent statement concerning 'GA and the terrorist threat' causes us some considerable concern and this Vapours initiative may go some way to mitigating further legislation.
We are preparing a statement and will publish something in the LAA magazine and on the website, but in principal believe the initiative has several benefits and few downsides. It is voluntary.
We see little problem in getting a free security markup for your aircraft equipment on 14th September at Shorham. It's a free landing too (PPR).

I'm sorry to disappoint Mr Plod but my guess is Osama won't be flying in.

If they want to protect the country from rogue UK aircraft, they should plug the massive hole in UK security by getting rid of G-INFO! It's a gift for nutters if they need to hijack an aircraft. Select the aircraft suitable for your bomb from CAA's helpful search capability, read off the owners address, pop over and put a gun to his head etc...

Steve, you do have a vivid imagination!!!!
So how many times has this already happened, as g-info has been available for many years, and before that the information was freely available in paper form at CAA Kingsway it surely would have happened before!
So please stop being a sensationalist scaremonger.

Anyway it would be far easier for a terrorist to just hire a truck from the local truck hire and put a big bomb in it, creating far more damage!

Bad day at work Nigel? What phrase would you use to describe the Sussex police "initiative"? I'll stop attacking G-INFO when I am given the option to remove my personal details from it.
