Mode S comedy

Post by cardiffrob »

Nice piece of hangar chat for you all.

I flew a 757 from Cardiff to Sharm el Sheik in Egypt (2500 miles each way) last night. We got as far as the Swiss/Italian border when the controller asked if we could reset our Mode S ident (in the form of ABC1234 for the flight callsign) since it had been left on the code for the previous flight to Palma.
On the way home I started aking each sector for a Mode S check. The UK didn't come up with a single radar controller who could read Mode S and this is in Mode S compulsory airspace, isn't it?

Can someone remind me why we need to all go out and buy one? :?

Well, think about this one 2 recent consultations, Mode S and the Nats TCN thing. Nats recieve 15,000 responses and publish initial feedback after approx 4 weeks. Mode S 2000 responses, and nothing since the end of May. They must be trying to come up with some other ruse to make the Mode S nightmare more palletable.

John.
