cross channel
I would like to take our group owned aircraft across to France for an overnight stay, would someone be kind enough to point me in the right direction with regard to legalities, paperwork required, which authorities need notifying etc, etc. or is it the same as with any non LAA aircraft in that a simple flight plan and customs form faxed/emailed prior to flight.

many thanks for this, has the rule changed recently?
Previously I belonged to a Luscombe owning group flying quite regular back and forwards across the channel. I believe at some time perhaps eight - ten years ago the French authorities got upset over PFA aircraft fying in their airspace due to differences in the rules..? then seem to remember it being a bit of a pain trying to get the paperwork to cross over.
sorry just re read the above lots of "seems" and "believes" anyway. Thanks in that case I will cross before the Wx changes

The LAA's Tech Leaflet for taking Permit aircraft abroad is here.
For France, the rules are in practice no different to CoA aircraft, but that's not the case for (e.g.) Belgium.

Looking at the LAA document, there seems to have been some updates fairly recently.
However, what is stated in the Czech documentation is different to what I was told last summer (2007). I found some information on a Czech CAA website that seemed to say that "ultralights" below 450kg didnt need any specific permission, but it was ambiguous for homebuilt aircraft above that weight. I wrote to an email address given, stating that I was a homebuilt that would seem to apply to the group not needing permission, but that my weight was above 450kg (Vans RV-6) they wrote back saying that I didnt need any kind of permission and wishing me a good flight.
