16 votes - so far - hardly justifies anything .......

from either the '800'supposed to be watching this BB, or of course 12,000 LAA members.
[Who themselves may wish to comment as it affects their assoc'n.

Mike,

How did you get to 800? The s/w says only 527 registered users who could theoretically vote.

800 was a false recollection.
If <600, some 5% of the LAA, any web 'vote' result expressed as a % figure is misrepresentative.
Only 19 votes to date, from 12,000, shows not many of even the 5% are concerned.

0.10% for closed
0.02% for open
Perhaps you would have been better putting a field for "Who gives a ***** "

Is not a meaningful thing to vote on. The whole BB is at present "Members Only" in the sense that only members can post on it.

I can't vote for the chocs for Brian AND vote for Hanagr Chat not to be Members Only. The two are not mutually exclusive. Personally I would favour:-

A part of the BBS that is open to all who register so any prospective members can ask questions and get answers. John Dean might need to modify the software to prevent automated registrations from the host or robots that try to spam. I'll be happy to tell him how I've killed them on other BBS.

Another bit that is only open to members and can only be seen by them. This allows spirited debate outside of the public eye that Peter and others seem afraid of.

Other bits that are only visible to members of the EC and the NC to enable policy making discussions to take place between them that are not visible to the membership at large or the public.

Anyway John I thought you'd flounced? Welcome back

Sorry, I don't feel that any of the options deserve consideration (except chocs for Brian :P )

If the poll had been organised by John Dean or Peter Harvey then I feel that I would have responded. But then more consideration would have gone into the options.

Broadly I agree with Mikes comments above

BTW Mike they may not know a "flounce" on this forum :D

I think I need to work on my founcing!

Like it or not if you expect gratitude for voluntary efforts you WILL be disappointed.

I have been but won't be again. I accept that if I do something 'for the greater good' then that is the reward - there is nothing more.

A lot of what I see at the moment for members of the LAA is seeking reward, approval or general congratulation. that attitude percolates ffrom EC members down to 'I think you should all be grateful and if you're not I'm out of here'

A little understnading and maturity would help - but all these petty restrictions on the BB - get a life - if your egos are that frail then maybe you should are still inside and not play with the nasty boys down the road.......................................

It's very disappointing to see such criticism of the effort to find the views of members on this forum site. I'm sure as much consideration was given to the alternatives to vote for as the replies in earlier exchanges on the topic of anonymity.

No Mike I hadn't flounced( I do Know what it means!) merely withdrawn my offers to do anything pro-active in order to fit in better with the average mentality displayed on this forum.(apologies to a few obvious exceptions).

Dave,

I don't feel one should be too consumed by what we BB watchers/users write. As a self selecting minority our views aren't necessarily 'average' or representative of the whole LAA membership.

It's just a regrettable fact, demonstrated before in previous BB issues, that we remain a sub-set of verbose LAA members.

perhaps the choc option was a bit tangential :(

Like Mike I sorta like the open & closed forum route, the only problem, from my past experience is that you get drift. What starts as a routine simple comment/idea gets highjacked by some pillock who wants to take it somewhere else, and before you know it we are back to the same old public mooning.

So given that you cannot stop folks going canine, it made sense to keep the whole of hangar chat private, If folks want to find out what LAA members get up to in their spare bedroom late in the evening then they should join up.
