Been twice but I found Duxford very expensive (excess charge for more than a few hrs parking I recall) and overall a bit unwelcoming. If they are offering discounts and cheaper access I'd go more often. I would have thought the presence of visiting aircraft (maybe parked on the crowd side rather than on the opposite far away side of the runway - real pilots could talk to the kids and their parents & show that aviation is possible for ordinary people) and this would enhance the experience of Duxford's by-road visitors to complement the non flying exhibits. :)

Yes you have to watch what Duxford are charging you, might be half price landing fee, but you still have to pay entrance to the museum (That in itself is well worth the money if you are going to look around the museum, but if you are there for a fly-in and have already been to the museum 3 times this year, then its an expensive fly-in)
Also if its a fly-in we want to hang around the aircraft park and look at each others aircraft and chat, probably not what they want at Duxford, they will be telling you to go and book in and stay behind the fence!
They also do have a bit of a reputation for unfriendly and not very good air traffic control (actually its FISO not ATC!) Ive only flown there for Helitech, when its free landings (paid by helitech I guess) slots are imposed, although less than 100 visitors and getting out can be a nightmare due to slow ATC. If you go to one of the bigger airshows there and look at the queue to get out, its unbelievable how slow it goes. What we would have departed in 10-15 minutes at a PFA rally takes about and hour and a half!
So in conclusion great to fly-in to look at the museum, but not very good for a fly-in.

I take that as a no for Duxford then!
Please note that I have asked John (I understand he has been away) to update the sticky on the fly-in forum.

We now have dates/events for Feb,March,April,June and July.
To date I have managed to organise all the venues that have been requested.

The original post indicated that I would guage interest at Christmas. To date there has not been much feedback, and no action from anyone else to arrange anything.
I have received one PM.

Christmas is nearly here, DO PEOPLE WANT THESE FLY INS?

Hi John, the flyin sticky only mentions tibenham, bruntingthorp and tannkosk.
I would like to join with others on the tannkosh do. (based in NW)

Fine by me,I will contact them,I am not sure if we need September because of the rally, however it might be a good Idea at the end of Sept incase (perish the thought) the rally is washed out.
However before I firm up anything I would like to see some input from some of the others on the forum,as to date all of the ideas have come from 5 people.
If you are viewing this ,please don't be shy lets have your thoughts...good or bad but polite please.

Any chance Brian could align free landing vouchers with the flyins? This would probably increase the numbers and may allow us to run a come and try session at some of the events to attract more members?

Now Llanbedr has the green light we might want to support them at some point.

Well..Christmas is here!
Frankly the response to this thread has been dissapointing but Brian is putting the dates in the mag so hopefully that will promote interest after Christmas.
I would very much like some indication if people want to attend these fly-ins because, frankly if not, theres's no point in doing all the work organising them.An indication would be taken as just that and not a commitment!
The ones booked currently(see sticky on "fly-ins") that will take the most effort to organise are the Project Propellor* and Tannkosh Fly-ins.Early indications would be appreciated.

* For those that are not aware, project propellor is the fly-in to Bruntingthorpe to celebrate veterans from the wars and we team you up(subject to you wanting to take part) with a veteran passenger. The Idea of a BB wing would be to co-ordinate a mass arrival.

A merry Christmas to all and may the new year bring better flying weather .

OK I am confused! The Mag appears to have one plan, the BB fly in section another and the comments on this thread another? I suspect this is the right one? JC?
