YAWS mobile phone TAF/METAR/NOTAM service

Post by tnowak » Fri Jan 09, 2009 1:08 pm

Just had an e-mail from the owner of the YAWS service that it is down due to server failure and is not expected to fixed until early-mid March at the earliest.

From the website owner: YAWS is back. Website now running on a backup server and may take a few days for everything to synchronise up.

The interface to OLIVIA for NOTAM access will be loaded soon.

That's excellent news Tony. A long term 'outage' like this brings home to you just how much work Angela does in running the YAWS service entirely at her own cost in terms of money and time. If you have the opportunity pass on my thanks to her for the service over the years.

David
Could you kindly remind me - if you have the info to hand - which edition of the PFA magazine contained your article on using the YAWS service (along with,as I recall, a swimwear model to distract us) .....?
I was looking for this recently.
Cheers
Peter

Peter, that was Popular Flying, December 2006.
The scantily clad thighs were Brian Hopes, not mine. ( That is, Brian included them on the printed page, I think they may not have actually been Brians thighs !! )

If you go to the website (www.activitae.com) from your PC you can try the service using the phone emulator. Click on "see it in action now" link which is situated just to the left of the first phone picture.

Gives you an idea of how to navigate around the system without spending money on GPRS data downloads!
