Rally cancelled
Just had notification from Dave Wise that the Rally at Sywell is cancelled. Any official confirmation?
Will be a real downer for us all and not an encouraging move for the membership drive.

I can confirm the Rally has been cancelled by the EC, dont know all the details but part of the rason is the economic downturn at present. We have spent a lot of time organising the infastructure for the new Rally so it is a great pity that this decision has been made. Would be nice if a non LAA event could be arranged for the same weekend as I was looking forward to flying our Jodel to the event from Leicester. No doubt there will be more information from our EC soon?

As John Dean has directed us here ... perhaps as someone likely to be "in the know", he can confirm it? .... Bloody shame if it's true!!!

There was an LAA meeting about the Rally on Friday evening. The results of that meeting were supposed to remain confidential until Sywell had been contacted but this appears to have failed. There will be no official conformation until Sywell has been involved.
My personal opinion, this is a PR disaster.

A well lads, weekend before it is the rally in Blois in central France... looks like a visit there is on the cards.
As Rod 1 has said, this is a bloody PR disaster and to boot it is a huge disappointment for a hell of a lot of LAA members.
Would it have been to much to ask for a post on these forums and on the front page of the website after the EC meeting, making a statement to the members to the reason why it was cancelled instead of attempting to keep this situation "under wraps" so to speak, this was never going to happen and now that it has leaked it looks in all regards that the members of the LAA were the last to know and becoming aware of the cancellation via announcements on other forums and websites only breeds further resentment and frustration among them.
Badly handled once again boys, very badly handled.

Shame. I can understand the thinking and the logic is without fault.
A reduced version without all the bells and whistles would have been a good move however.
If anyone wants to go to a rally that is without all the bells and whistles (just a big marquee, beer, food and karaoke (and a few traders - but not a lot) then look up Spamfield on the Isle of Wight.
Best
