I want to take a Piper J-3 Cub operated on a permit to Texel for for the Taildragger Fly-In. I nearly got there about 4 years ago except for a bit of a northerly gale but everything was very straight forward and operating through France, Belgium and the Netherlands was easy.
The vagueries of operating a permit operated aircraft with no transponder and no ELT/PLB outside of the London FIR now appear to be defeating me and I am contemplating a coastal tour of the south and south west of England instead.
Your thoughts...........

After the revelation on Flyer that Dutch flying shops are having to buy back PLBs I don't think there is much vague about the Dutch authorities position any more. If they soften their stance after that the dealers have a case against them for loss of income. I think a few of us with new PLBs that were thinking Holland too will be looking south from now on for our trips. Trouble is it's the Danes and Swedes that will suffer too not just Dutch fields.

Don't give up. Texel is a very friendly airfield and well worth a visit, especially for the taildragger fly-in.
I emailed the Dutch aviation authorities seeking clarification of the ELT/PLB situation regarding UK registered aircraft but, as I expected, never got the courtesy of a reply. I do know from friends in the Dutch RV community that they are still flying internationally without ELT fitted and are debating the requirements with their own authorities. Regarding the transponder issue, even if you had one fitted it would not be permitted to turn it on in the Amsterdam area at the moment ! Things may change this year but I made a number of journeys to / through Dutch airspace last year with mode A/C and the controllers were most helpful, clearing me up to the base of controlled airspace despite me ensuring they knew I didn't have mode S.
My advice to people wanting to go to Texel for the Taildragger fly-in or the August RV fly-in is to email Texel airfield and ask for their advice and assistance in sorting the problem out. They are a good bunch there and may well know the relevant 'pressure points' within the Dutch authorities. Perhaps the awareness of the economic effects to their GA airfields by excluding foreign visitors might have a beneficial effect in re-establishing a degree of common sense. Mind you, paperwork and practicality are often poor bedfellows.
