Sense prevails - this issue was also discussed in the 'Regional Events - the future' in Hanger Chat and it is to everyone's credit that a change of heart has occured. Well done and thanks to everyone involved.

Can't say that I did Rod, my earlier attempts had failed but MKAS have now realised they do not have the manpower for escorted groups so have taken a welcome and pragmatic view. It is encumbent upon all of us to keep our eyes open for anybody putting themself in a dodgy position, or heaven forbid any pilot taxiing carelessly, and to have a quiet word with them about their responsibilies for their and other's safety.

Common sense at last but what an amount of emotion we had to endure to get to this point. I was (Seriously) almost about to tell the LAA to cancel my membership, but the great work they did on the NPPL made me ponder. In any case I was going to give the event a miss because of the airside issue. My aircraft had a bingle with another group member, and the engine is in the shop for a Shock load inspection so it is via road for me. I am delighted that sense has seen the light of day, and I do believe it was because of pressure from LAA Members that the MKAS has done a volte face. As for the LAA washing their hands of the event....well........ :roll:

I'm sure it wasn't MKAS opposing airside access. They are the guys who were trying to make it possible, even if it meant having escorted groups.

They are also the guys who marshalled the Sywell Revival event a couple of years ago, to ensure that could go ahead.

Typical, every thing seems to be getting sorted now and I won't be able to make it thanks to the anonimous w****r that twatted my elevator on Sunday eve at Scaffen Diest causing me to find alternative way home and having to abandon the plane in Belgium. :evil:

Hi John, sorry to hear about your elevator. Those early Vans elevator skins are very thin and rather susceptible to damage. A certain friend of ours from the west country had a similar problem with his 4 when somebody managed to bash it into a staunchion in the hangar, thankfully he owned up to it and paid for the repairs. Hope you get it back and fixed very soon.

Thats great news about airside access for all at Sywell, sense has prevailed at last. Is that for everyone, or just LAA members?
I know quite a few people who will now decide to come who previously had decided not to due to the lack of airside access.

My understanding is that it is for everybody, not just LAA members. At an LAA run event (which of course the Revival isn't), I would hope that airside access would be for LAA members only.

Ah! Just as I thought this topic had died.

Members only airside for a national rally would be a good way to coax back some of our enthusiast members that have lapsed but we would need to cater for a member turning up with his familiy or friends (as he would in an aircraft). No one is going to drive to a rally unless their family can walk around with them. I'm not saying it's a bad idea just needs thought.

After spending 2 hours this morning (I am a slow reader) getting to Page 7 of the comments on the airside issue at Sywell, I became fed up with it all and decided not to bother making the trip by road from Poland to attend the rally if I would have been unable to go airside unaccompanied.
For some unknown reason, after working for a couple of hours on my CH701, I decided to have one last look and went straight to page 12. What a good job I did! So now my visit is back on. This just goes to prove that the opinions of members does have an effect even if it is termed "Dissent"
