Post by Will Greenwood »

Just to keep the CEO happy..!!, how may pilots started there flying on gliders? I started (16yrs old) 8/9/84 K7glider, Ringmer GC, Ron Speer instructor, who is also an LAA inspector and flies an RV8, checked out by his then 1984 student...now an LAA/PCS instructor, just started flying sailplanes as well again.

I flew gilders from 1984 to 1991 then I switched to power. Did one season of gliding about 6 years ago after I agreed to loan the aircraft to a friend of a friend who crashed it. I had always intended to go back to gliding eventually, bit probably stick with power (SSDR?) when I finally retire.

Hi Champ(Neil?), my speling is teribable......just as well i can fly, and that's debatable!! The glider market is about depressed as the aircraft market, having trouble finding either at the momment..roll on summer.

Wuns I koodent spel pylott, now i is wun...

I guess it depends whether you're buying or selling...although I'm not current on gliders or their market.

Yeah, roll on summer. We seem to be at that time of year when nature skips a season. Blink and it's winter.

Started flying gliders at Waldershare Park in 1986 (Hi Nic) and switched to power in 1990. I noticed you'd joined up at Parham Will ... I joined in June hoping to get back into gliding too. Re solo'd but have had to put it on hold for a bit for financial reasons :(

Roll on summer indeed .... More work and more flying :D

Just re-started gliding [at Snitterfield, SOAGC] after a 35 year break....great fun, finding again the 'team' way of doing things I thought lost.

Started in 1970 at Marshall's [CUGC] in Ka7s towed by Tiger Moths, instructor Ted Warner. Later went onto powered light aircraft, Instructor and the Airlines, current part owner of a Tailwind and an LAA Coach so the foundations must have been solid.

I started gliding with the air cadets in early 70's went onto become a staff cadet at two VGS's then did an RAF flying scholarship to get my PPL. Flew with the RAF GSA at Bicester for a while before finding that time and money prohibited doing both so I reluctantly quit gliding in favour of power mainly as Andy Gough kept promising a checkout in the chipmunk tugs but never came up with the goods!!. Always kinda regretted that and would like to try gliding again at some point, what I really want is a TMG but too costly and too big!!

Curiously was also a member of the MPM group at Booker, just like last poster S Moody was.

After a good search, managed to find a Ventus BT at my local club, have done all my checks and now have 4hrs on her, including an air start for the "Turbo", which will hopefully cut down the field landings, although I aim to pick a field first before raising the engine...you never know !!
