Luciole MC 30

Post by nigelj »

Hello all
I've been following the articles on the MC30 and am thinking of building one. (Novice builder, built a few radio controlled models in my time). I'm sure I read of a couple of people building one in the UK but my old LAA mags have been binned by the Mrs! Any 1st hand info, contacts and technical info on performance would be most apreciated.
Thanks
Nigel Jacklin

Here is a good place to start: http://luciole.co.uk/ Richard Teverson is the man to speak to.

He manned a stand at Sywell that, I am pleased to say, attracted a great deal of interest.

I know several people who have seriously considered the MC30. I am told it is an extremely demanding build. I was considering one for my next project, but I am too heavy for it and despite having built the MCR I think it would be a big challenge.

That's a pity - very demanding build I mean. The "Cri-Cri" build tolerances were in the order of plus or minus half a millimeter (working in aluminium) but in wood ...?

I am not sure that there are any undemanding builds.

Success depends upon the individual's particular abilities and motivations. The Luciole does have some interesting challenges but Richard Treverson appears to have a handle on them. He is gearing up to help with the challenging aspects, which I think is really just curing the spars at the right temperature.

I was very impressed by the use of mixed materials and it is a revolutionary design. Hoever, check with LAA Engineering as I am not sure it is fully approved yet.

Thanks to everyone who has replied. I've emailed Richard Teverson and am following his progres closely. I would be very tempted to try this build if it seems there is sufficient support for the more tricky bits!
