This morning I got an e-mail telling me that there are problems at Northrepps (Cromer International). I'm not aware of the full background but it appears there is a campaing underway - led by a local Lib Dem Councilor alonf with a relative of the airfield operator - to get Northrepps closed down.
I feel this would be an absolute tragedy as Northrepps is a great little airfield that has been significantly improved over the last few years. They had over 100 aircraft at their end of season fly-in on 18th October.
A petition has been launched in support of the airfield and details can be found vie either of the following links :
www.northreppsaerodrome.co.uk
http://www.catchacloud.co.uk/page2.htm
I would urge people to support this petition if they possibly can.

John,
It would be nice to know what this is about or we will go off at half cock. Vague petitions are pointless and whilst the Northreps website tells us that there is a campaign to close the airfield it is very thin on detail of exactly why the protagonists want the airfield closed. Whilst I could spend my time finding the specific and accurate details of this, please would you do so and then the LAA and its members can take proper coordinated action, focussed on the issues.

I believe that this may be the cause of the need for the petition which when one considers it, could be a justification for some locals becoming concerned.
Planning application submitted to North Norfolk DC on 2nd Nov:
Removal of conditions 1 and 3 of 20081434 and variation of conditions 3,4,5 and 8 to continue use of land as aerodrome with increase of aircraft movements from 1780 to 5000 per annum and to provide take off and landing at any time in an emergency and limited towing and aerobatics
I suspect that the 1780 movements per annum are already being exceeded due in part to Northrepps increasing popularity and improved facilities and Chris is quite correctly wishing to formalise the position in respect of increased movements however and as we all know, there will always be some locals who object to anything aviation related and an "anti-campaign" was inevitable.
It's just a pity that the petition website didn't give a full explaination of the need for the petition!
