Harnesses

Post by Rob Swain »

Here's a simple enough question...... I hope.

Can anyone suggest / recommend a supplier of harnesses that will make them to order as regards length, colour, ends etc? An outfit in the UK would be preferable having had aggro with ordering custom made bits from the US.
I'm after sets of 4 point 'normal aircraft' and 5 point aerobatic harnesses for a Starduster Too, and probably a secondary lapbelt for the same aircraft.

I've tried looking on the web but Google seems to have the hump with me on this subject.

Rob, We got some made up by a local car trimmer who also specialised in motor racing harnesses, so someone like this might be able to customise to your requirements (we had the hardware; they just stitched up the webbing). There is a small firm near Oxford who do aircraft harnesses...but damned if I can find their details at the moment.
Or you could try http://www.schlemann-gurte.de/schlemann ... farben.htm

Don't know where you are based Rob, but Willans in Stockbridge make racing harnesses for F1. They will do bespoke stuff. Quality gear from these guys! They are actually in the High Street on the left as you drive up towards Salisbury, or by email/post I'm sure.

Cheers for that, Nick.

All the hardware we've got is looking a bit tired and is mismatched anyway, one bit being old mil spec and now not permissable (won't open if under tension), so just getting it re-webbed isn't the popular option.

Don't fancy discovering the old buckle is past it while upside down

Nope, Ian, not them: though they look they might be useful in other contexts!

I have no experience of them myself, but friends in the USA and Canada all seem to use "Hooker Harness" and seem happy with them.
