Insurance

Post by paul330 »

The bits of my aircraft and the tools have got to the stage where they are actually worth something! How have people insured their kits and tools during the build? Do you need a specialist aviation insurer or can you just include it in the household insurance (I am building in the garage)? If the former, any recommendations?

Hi Paul, I know HR Jennings do a specific policy for just this situation, very reasonably priced too I beleive. They advertise in the mag.

I took out a ground risk policy which increased in value as the build progressed. I got the impression this was quite normal. I used Traffords, but OnRisk might be worth a go.

I wonder if that is an insurable risk?

Thatcherism ..... Brrrrrrr, that sent a shiver down my spine Richard!

At least with a metal aeroplane the missus will have to be more creative than threatening it with a match :P I'm sure she'll think of some lever to get me to do those odd jobs I keep putting off :?

Remember a few years back, a guy from around Glasgow (I think ) purposly set fire to his near complete Rand as he was that frustrated with the build. Got into a bit of trouble with the CAA as it was registered.

Think we are getting a little away from the topic, but thanks for the info!

We use Jennings - they put us on a Norwich Union policy which covers us up to 45,000 GBP. The premium is under a hundred a year from memory.
