An AIC was put out by the Franch DGAC a few weeks ago requiring the carriage of an ELT or PLB from next year.
They quote some exceptions for ULM and CNRA aircraft, though it's not clear if these exceptions equally apply to foreign equivalents.
At least a PLB is a reasonably cheap and sensible option. Maybe I should buy shares in McMurdo?

lets hope the AIC exempts all homebuilt aircraft! Maybe a requirement is justified for Public transport aircraft, but not for private.
Hope the CAA dont get the same idea, as they will no doubt gold plate any requirement, even though ELTs were banned in CAA registered aircraft until recently (due to so many false alerts)
I hope your equipment does meet their requirements Rod. Would be expensive if you had to buy something else! I was tlaking to some friends in Canada about this recently. They now have to fit ELTs to all aircraft, portable ones are no longer allowed, so even if like them you have a collection of aircraft owned by the group, many of which never leave the local area, you cant buy a couple of ELTs and switch them around whichever aircraft you are going to fly on a long cross country, you need one in each! Very expensive even though they are still alowed to fit the cheap 121.5 versions.
yet again today I got ear ache listening to one on 121.5 somewhere over holland, controllers didnt seem very interested.

Having checked, the McMurdo Fastfind MAX-G does meet French requirements. This is a really good device which is well worth getting irrespective of the powers that be trying to force us into it. It will pinpoint your exact position to the rescue services 3 min after you turn it on which is a huge safety benefit.
